Uses of Amlodipine

Amlodipine is used in the treatment of hypertension and chest pain (Angina).

Fatigue, Ankle swelling, Sleepiness, Flushing (sense of warmth in the face, ears, neck and trunk), Headache, Nausea, Dizziness, Palpitations, Edema, Abdominal pain.

 

How to use Amlodipine

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. AMLODIL-AT 5MG/50MG TABLET is to be taken empty stomach.
 

How AMLODIL-AT 5MG/50MG TABLET works

Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker. It works by relaxing blood vessels which makes the heart more efficient at pumping blood throughout the body.
 

Expert advice for Amlodipine

  • It is very common to have dizziness, lightheadedness, swelling ankles/feet, flushing, or a headache as a side effect.
  • To lower your risk of dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position.
  • Inform your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if it worsens (for example, your blood pressure readings remain high or increase, chest pain continues or worsens). 
  • Inform your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: fast/irregular/pounding heartbeat, fainting.
  • Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day. It is important to continue taking this medication even if you feel well.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose.

Expert advice for Atenolol

  • Atenolol helps reduce blood pressure and lower heart rate.
  • Do not miss doses. In case you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible up to 8 hrs before next dose. Don’t double the dose.
  • Stopping Atenolol suddenly can cause your blood pressure to rise suddenly, which increases the risk of heart attack and stroke.
  • You may feel dizzy during the initial few days. You may also have fatigue and headaches. Notify your doctor if these symptoms persist for long.
  • Can hide symptoms of low blood sugar if you're diabetic. If you take insulin or other anti-diabetic medications, you may have to check your blood sugar level more closely.
  • Know how to check pulse daily and blood pressure (BP) twice a week, and teach your family as well.
  • Notify your doctor if slow pulse, troubled breathing, wheezing, cold hands and feet, dizziness, light-headedness, confusion, depression.

Warnings

Alcohol
 
Atenolol and alcohol may have additive effects in lowering your blood pressure. You may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate.
 
Pregnancy
 
AMLODIL-AT 5MG/50MG TABLET is unsafe to use during pregnancy.
There is positive evidence of human fetal risk, but the benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk, for example in life-threatening situations. Please consult your doctor.
 
Lactation
 
AMLODIL-AT 5MG/50MG TABLET is probably usafe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggests that the drug could represent a significant risk to the baby.
 
Driving
 
Do not drive unless you are feeling well.
AMLODIL-AT 5MG/50MG TABLET may cause side effects such as dizziness, headaches, nausea or tiredness, all of which could affect your ability to concentrate and drive.
 
Kidney
 
AMLODIL-AT 5MG/50MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of AMLODIL-AT 5MG/50MG TABLET may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Regular monitoring of blood pressure is recommended and can help in better dose adjustment.
 
Liver
 
AMLODIL-AT 5MG/50MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of AMLODIL-AT 5MG/50MG TABLET may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
AMLODIL-AT 5MG/50MG TABLET is started at a lower dose in patients with liver disease and further increased slowly with careful monitoring.
