Expert advice for Atpine Eye Drop
Atpine Eye Drop enlarges the pupil for eye examination and is commonly used in children <2 years of age. It also relieves pain due to corneal ulcers and inflammation of the eye (uveitis). Pull down the lower eyelid to form a pouch and squeeze the medicine into space without making contact with the tip of the tube. The amount of ointment applied should be about the size of a 'rice grain'. When used in excess, it may cause dryness, flushing, fever, and increased heart rate. Apply pressure on the corner of the eye (close to the nose) for about 1 minute immediately after instilling the drop. There may be stickiness in the eye after application which should go away in a few minutes. Wait for at least 5-10 minutes before delivering the next medication in the same eye to avoid dilution. You may experience a stinging sensation for 1-2 mins. Notify your doctor if it persists for longer. Make sure to use within 4 weeks of opening the tube.
