• Consume miltefosine with food to minimize side-effects like nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
• Increase liquid intake during miltefosine therapy.
• You will be monitored with laboratory blood tests to assess kidney function and liver function.
• You will be regularly monitored for platelet count during therapy for visceral leishmaniasis
• Tell your doctor if you are or planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.
• Use effective contraception during and for 5 months after therapy with miltefosine in order to avoid pregnancy.
• Patients who are allergic to miltefosine or any of its components should not take miltefosine.
• Pregnant women should not take miltefosine.
• Do not administer miltefosine to the patients who have Sjögren-Larsson-Syndrome (inherited disorder characterized by skin abnormalities and neurologic abnormalities that appear in infancy)
